From Ventosa to Azofra (17km)

204km walked
609km to Santiago

Day #11 We left Ventosa early in the morning hoping to dodge the rain, as the weather forecast for the day had "promised" heavy rain for most part of the stage. It proved to be right!

The Iglesia de Ventosa enveloped in fog as we were leaving the small village.
We set out with our rain ponchos on as dark skies, thick fog and humidity were ominous: the sun would probably never shine on us.
With the drizzle, the rocky ascent to the Alto de San Antón became too slippery. It obliged us to be more careful with our ground.
As we approached Nájera, the rain started to subside and the sun made a promise to come out soon.
Even in the darkest of days, you can have a rainbow! And we did! So, as we arrived to Nájera the timid sun fooled us into deciding to continue on. A hasty decision that we would come to regret!
Crossing the bridge over the River Najerilla in Nájera.
Monastery of Santa Maria La Real in Nájera.
Heavy rain came back just as we were leaving Nájera and the worse was yet to come.
The storm began! Outside and inside!
